History of The Parks House
This stately stone house was built in 1911 by Albert N. and Sallie F Gorrell. W.D. "Pappy" and Naomi Parks moved into the house in 1946. Following the death of Pappy, his widow, Naomi, operated a tourist home in the house, a forerunner of today's B& B's. The house was sold in 1978, occupied for several years and fell into disrepair. Under restoration now it is approximately 80% complete.

Lewis and Lisa Braithwaite opened The Parks House in April 1998 as a means of presenting the beautiful old home to the community and many visitors in Berkeley Springs. By filling it with locally handcrafted furniture, Victorian and country gift items they offered something new and different to the area.

Some of the original attributes of the house include beautiful hand-rubbed oak and heart of pine wood trim and hardwood floors. The stone exterior and surrounding shade trees and weeping mulberry tree lend the house to a serene surrounding. You can regularly find an antique car or an antique carriage or buggy parked in the front yard.
